The verdict

What's good

  • Lightspeed nine-speed gearbox delivers shifts faster than any DCT currently produced
  • Bespoke one-off commission status makes this among the most exclusive cars ever built
  • Aerodynamic package generates meaningful downforce at road-legal speeds without wings
  • Koenigsegg's small-batch factory allows customer-specified details impossible at volume producers

What's not

  • Sadair's Spear is a one-of-one; service requires shipping to Sweden or a factory visit
  • Visibility from the cockpit is severely limited by the wide front haunches
  • Cabin heat buildup from the mid-mounted V8 is intense in slow traffic conditions
  • Insurance and storage costs for a sub-30-unit hypercar are among the world's highest

The engine

5.0L Twin-Turbo V8

Twin-Turbo V8

A ferociously high-revving twin-turbo V8 that spins to 8,500 rpm and barks with an exotic, even-firing wail thanks to its flat-plane crank. Its signature is near-instant response despite forced induction.

Designed and built entirely in-house by Koenigsegg in Ängelholm, Sweden — the company famously engineers its own engines rather than sourcing them, a rarity among low-volume makers.
