The verdict

What's good

  • Pivi Pro infotainment received significant updates and is now genuinely intuitive to use
  • Euro NCAP five-star result reflects a structurally competent safety engineering approach
  • Cabin materials quality and seat comfort stand above the Audi Q5 entry-level experience
  • Handsome design ages extremely well — resale appeal beyond the depreciation curve

What's not

  • 2.0L Ingenium engine is the weakest in JLR's lineup for long-term reliability data
  • Four-cylinder fuel economy is surprisingly poor for the engine size — rivals do better
  • Depreciation curve is steep in the first three years — leasing is preferable to buying
  • Pivi Pro still lacks a physical volume control knob which frustrates daily users

The engine

Ingenium

2.0L Turbo I4

A torque-rich, turbocharged four that gives entry models brisk, flexible punch; in the F-Type it brings a lighter nose and sharper turn-in, even if it lacks the supercharged engines' theater.

From Jaguar Land Rover's modular Ingenium family announced in 2014, designed in-house to replace Ford-sourced engines; it's built at JLR's purpose-built Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, England.
