Mazda's naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter four pairs with an electric motor for smooth, premium-fuel-loving thrust, delivering meaningful EV-only running before settling into hybrid mode.

Part of Mazda's e-Skyactiv PHEV family, mated to a conventional 8-speed automatic rather than a CVT in keeping with Mazda's driver-focused philosophy and craftsman ethos.

It uses a traditional torque-converter 8-speed automatic, unusual among plug-in hybrids that typically favor CVTs or planetary e-CVTs.
The roughly 17.8 kWh lithium-ion pack provides around 26 miles of electric-only driving before the engine engages.
A Level 2 home charger refills the battery in about 2.5 hours versus around 11 on a standard Level 1 cable.
