The verdict

What's good

  • Open-top V12 sound exposure makes every drive a full sensory event
  • Limited production run supports strong residual value in the collector market
  • ALA 2.0 aerodynamic system actively reshapes airflow front and rear at speed
  • Roadster adds only modest weight versus the coupe, preserving most of its agility

What's not

  • Soft-top fitting adds slight chassis flex perceptible on aggressive corner entries
  • ISR gearbox remains jerky and hesitant in slow parking lot maneuvers
  • Convertible roofline reduces wind protection even at moderate open-road speeds
  • Service access limited to Lamborghini-authorized dealers with long wait times for parts

The engine

L539

Naturally Aspirated V12

A ferocious, free-revving naturally aspirated V12 that climbs to 8,500 rpm with a hard-edged metallic wail, delivering its power in a building, addictive top-end rush.

Codenamed L539, this clean-sheet 6.5L V12 was developed entirely in-house at Sant'Agata Bolognese under CTO Maurizio Reggiani for the 2011 Aventador — only the second all-new V12 in Lamborghini history.
