Naturally Aspirated V10

A high-revving, naturally aspirated V10 with a spine-tingling top-end wail — no turbos, just rising intake howl and instant throttle response that builds all the way to its lofty redline.

Developed by Lamborghini after Audi (Volkswagen Group) acquired the marque — it was the first engine engineered for Lamborghini under Audi ownership; the R8 is built at Audi's aluminium site in Neckarsulm, Germany, sharing its core with the Gallardo and later Huracán.

• The R8's 5.2L V10 is mechanically near-identical to Lamborghini's, sharing Audi's Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) and 90 mm cylinder spacing.
• The same V10 architecture also found its way into Audi's own S6, S8 and RS6 luxury models.
• In R8 LMS racing form, the engine helped Audi claim an outright Nürburgring 24 Hours victory.
• It is one of the last naturally aspirated ten-cylinder engines offered in a road car, a configuration the industry has largely abandoned for turbocharging.
