The verdict

What's good

  • ALA 2.0 active aero manages front-to-rear downforce split dynamically at speed
  • Nurburgring production car lap record at launch affirms real-world track capability
  • AWD system sends torque rearward preferentially, preserving rear-drive feel in fast bends
  • Factory carbon fiber body panels keep the curb weight competitive against turbocharged rivals

What's not

  • ISR single-clutch gearbox is frustrating in daily low-speed driving conditions
  • Extremely limited rearward visibility makes reversing without camera assistance dangerous
  • Cabin temperature climbs rapidly in slow traffic due to mid-rear V12 heat output
  • Dealer scarcity outside major cities makes routine servicing a logistical challenge

The engine

L539

Naturally Aspirated V12

A ferocious, free-revving naturally aspirated V12 that climbs to 8,500 rpm with a hard-edged metallic wail, delivering its power in a building, addictive top-end rush.

Codenamed L539, this clean-sheet 6.5L V12 was developed entirely in-house at Sant'Agata Bolognese under CTO Maurizio Reggiani for the 2011 Aventador — only the second all-new V12 in Lamborghini history.
