A series/parallel plug-in hybrid that glides on electric power around town and seamlessly fires its four-cylinder as a generator or direct drive when you ask for more, with instant low-speed torque and standard twin-motor all-wheel drive.

Engineered by Mitsubishi and badge-shared with Nissan: the Rogue Plug-In Hybrid is, under the skin, a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, riding the shared Alliance CMF-CD platform and using Mitsubishi's PHEV powertrain and Super All-Wheel Control system.

• It is the first plug-in hybrid Nissan has offered in the United States, achieved by rebadging the Outlander PHEV rather than developing its own.
• The system can run as a pure series hybrid, using the gas engine purely as a generator, or in parallel mode where the engine directly drives the front wheels.
• The twin-motor layout puts one electric motor on each axle, so all-wheel drive comes from electricity rather than a mechanical driveshaft to the rear.
