The verdict

What's good

  • Four-cylinder keeps insurance premiums noticeably lower than the six
  • Lighter nose over the front axle sharpens turn-in feel versus the 3.0
  • Surprisingly capable fuel range lets you enjoy canyon roads without range anxiety
  • Toyota warranty coverage and dealer access are unmatched in the sports car class

What's not

  • Power feels modest when cross-shopping six-cylinder rivals at similar pricing
  • No rear seat makes this a dedicated two-person machine with no flexibility
  • Tiny 13.7-gallon tank still limits absolute range on longer touring runs
  • Resale gap versus the 3.0 widens at three years — buyers prefer the bigger engine

The engine

B48

2.0L Turbo Inline-4

A lighter, more eager turbo four that trims roughly 100 kg off the nose, sharpening the Supra's balance and agility at the cost of the six's outright muscle.

It is BMW's B48 four-cylinder, a modular sibling of the B58 six, fitted to the Supra built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.
