The verdict

What's good

  • Smooth, eager inline-six engine
  • Sharp, playful rear-drive handling
  • Available proper manual gearbox
  • Looks like a modern classic

What's not

  • Tight, hard-to-enter cabin
  • Limited outward visibility
  • Shares a lot with BMW
  • Small trunk opening

The engine

B58

Twin-Scroll Turbo I6

A silky, immensely torquey straight-six that pulls hard and clean across the rev range with the inherent smoothness only an inline-six delivers, paired with a muscular mid-range surge. Toyota recalibrated it to feel sharper and more vocal than in its donor application.

The Supra's engine is BMW's B58, built in Munich, Germany; the fifth-generation GR Supra was co-developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing and BMW on a shared platform that also underpins the BMW Z4.
