The engine

1.6L I3 Turbo

1.6L Turbo I3

A pint-sized triple that punches absurdly above its weight, spinning out roughly 100 horsepower per cylinder with a hard-edged, slightly uneven thrum and rally-bred ferocity. It feels frenetic and alive, nothing like the economy-car three-cylinders it shares a layout with.

The G16E-GTS was developed by Toyota's Gazoo Racing division and introduced in 2020 for the GR Yaris, a homologation special born of Toyota's World Rally Championship ambitions; it is hand-related to that motorsport program.
