Twin-Turbo Flat-6

A free-revving, water-cooled boxer that pulls hard to a high redline with the unmistakable flat-six wail Porsche has chased since the 1960s, the twin turbos packaged low for a deep, even thrum rather than turbo muffle.

Built in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, the 9A2 Evo is the heart of the 992-generation 911 Carrera range and the basis for the larger Turbo-model engine; Porsche's turbo know-how traces to the 917/10 Can-Am racer of 1972 and the 1974 911 RSR 2.1 Turbo.

The Turbo-model 911's bigger boxer is essentially a punched-out evolution of this very Carrera engine rather than a separate design.
It uses piezo fuel injectors and electronically controlled wastegates for sharper throttle response than older turbo 911s.
