Volvo's Recharge plug-in hybrid teams a turbo- (and super-) charged 2.0-liter four with a rear electric motor for strong combined output, electric-only commuting, and seamless all-wheel drive.

Part of Volvo's modular Drive-E family, the four-cylinder is both turbo- and supercharged in top tune, letting one small engine do the work of a much larger one before the hybrid even helps.

In top tune the engine is both turbocharged AND supercharged to eliminate lag.
The electric motor drives the rear axle, making the car all-wheel drive without a driveshaft.
