A turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor for a combined 218 hp, it slips silently off the line on volts before the petrol four wakes up — quiet, torque-rich and effortless for a big bus.

Built around VW's familiar EA211-family 1.4 TSI, the powertrain migrated into the seventh-generation Transporter/Multivan when the T7 abandoned its commercial-van roots for VW's MQB passenger-car platform.

• The T7 was the first Transporter-lineage Multivan ever offered as a plug-in hybrid, made possible only by the switch to the car-based MQB architecture.
• Its roughly 13 kWh battery gives around 46–50 km (29–31 mi) of electric-only range on the WLTP cycle.
