2.0L Turbodiesel I4

A refined, torque-rich four-cylinder diesel that pulls hard and low while staying smooth and quiet for a workhorse, thanks to balancing shafts and stiff aluminum construction.

Mercedes-Benz's fourth-generation 2.0L inline-four diesel, introduced in 2016 to replace the long-serving 2.1L OM651; it is engineered and built by Mercedes-Benz in Germany and serves everything from the A-Class to the Sprinter van.

Its cylinder walls are coated with Mercedes' NANOSLIDE iron-carbon spray instead of conventional liners, cutting internal friction.
At roughly 168 kg it is about 35 kg lighter than the cast-iron-block OM651 it replaced.
Despite stepping down in displacement from 2.1L to 2.0L, it delivers more power and around 13% better efficiency than its predecessor.
