The verdict

What's good

  • Stow 'n Go seats fold flat into the floor without removing them — unique in class
  • PHEV covers most daily school-run and errand duty on electricity alone
  • Three-zone climate control and Uconnect screen keep long family trips genuinely comfortable
  • Only PHEV minivan in North America, which qualifies buyers for federal tax credits

What's not

  • Reliability scores are well below average — plug-in components have a known fault history
  • FWD-only limits winter traction on unploughed driveways and icy hills
  • Driver's forward sight-line past the long hood can make low-speed maneuvering tricky
  • Cargo volume behind the third row is modest compared to non-hybrid Pacifica

The engine

Pentastar

3.6L Atkinson V6 Plug-in Hybrid

An Atkinson-cycle V6 tuned for efficiency over urgency, working through a dual-motor electric transaxle so the Pacifica slips along on near-silent electric power before the engine quietly joins in.

It is an Atkinson-tuned version of Chrysler's Pentastar V6, mated to the in-house eFlite electrically variable transmission and developed in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
