VR38DETT

Twin-Turbo V6

The ferocious heart of Godzilla, a parallel-twin-turbo V6 that delivers a relentless, brutal wall of thrust and a hard-edged mechanical snarl unlike any other six.

Hand-built in Yokohama, Japan, the VR38DETT powered the R35 GT-R from 2007 to 2025, with NISMO units further hand-balanced for high-rpm smoothness.

Each engine is assembled start-to-finish by a single master craftsman, a 'Takumi,' whose name is fixed to the engine on a plaque.
Only a small handful of Takumi were ever certified to build it, working in a controlled clean room.
Its cylinder bores are coated with a plasma-sprayed liner just fractions of a millimeter thick instead of conventional pressed-in metal liners.
