The engine

J35

3.5L SOHC V6

A smooth, naturally aspirated SOHC i-VTEC V6 that trades drama for refined, linear power and effortless cruising muscle.

It is a member of Honda's long-running J-series V6, designed in Japan with US engineering input and built at Honda's Anna, Ohio engine plant; the MDX is assembled in East Liberty, Ohio.

Many J-series V6s use Honda's Variable Cylinder Management, which can shut down cylinders under light load to save fuel.
The Anna, Ohio plant that builds this V6 also produces the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 used in the MDX Type S.
Since 2017, the only factory in the world building the MDX has been Honda's East Liberty, Ohio plant.
