The verdict

What's good

Still sells a proper manual gearbox at the same price as the automatic, which almost nothing else in the class does
Torque arrives early enough that you rarely have to work the engine to make progress
The restyled nose leans harder on the nameplate's own history than the launch car did
Genuinely rear-driven and playful rather than quick in a way that flatters the driver

What's not

Cabin plastics and switchgear still feel a class below the price
The base grade misses the retuned dampers and forged wheels the mid grade gets
Thirsty in traffic in a way the highway figure does not prepare you for
Year-over-year the price moved but the engine did not

Twin-Turbo V6

A compact twin-turbocharged V6 mounted behind the front axle line, with peak torque arriving from just over idle and holding to the top of the range, which is why the Z feels muscular rather than peaky.

An evolution of Nissan's long-running VQ family, developed with lessons from the company's endurance racing engines and built at the Iwaki plant in Fukushima, Japan.

Each cylinder bank has its own small turbocharger with an electric wastegate, a layout chosen to cut response time rather than to chase a headline power figure.
Bore and stroke are identical at 86 millimetres, a square design that trades a little low-end flexibility for willingness to rev.
For 2027 the fuel tank was redesigned specifically to stop fuel sloshing away from the pump during sustained high-load cornering.
The manual car uses a carbon-fibre composite driveshaft where the automatic uses steel.
