1.5L Series-Hybrid (Engine-as-Generator)

Despite the gas engine, it drives like a pure EV: the wheels are turned only by an electric motor, so you get instant, transmission-free torque and seamless throttle response, with the engine humming away in the background as a generator.

e-POWER is Nissan's series-hybrid system, first launched in Japan on the Note in 2016 and brought to the U.S. for the first time in the 2027 Rogue using a third-generation setup.

• The gasoline engine is never mechanically connected to the wheels — it exists solely to spin a generator and charge a small battery.
• Because the engine runs only in its most efficient rev band, the latest unit reaches roughly 42% thermal efficiency, exceptional for a production gasoline engine.
• The Rogue's buffer battery is tiny — around 2.1 kWh — and it never plugs in, recharging from the engine and regenerative braking.
