The verdict

What's good

  • Third model year brings the most software-mature version of the Folgore powertrain to market
  • Sonus Faber premium audio remains best-in-class for a compact electric SUV
  • Adaptive dampers in Comfort mode now deliver a noticeably smoother ride than launch examples
  • Trident badge provides exclusivity in a sea of anonymous compact electric crossovers

What's not

  • Range still trails Volvo EX90 and BMW iX at comparable price by a meaningful margin
  • Maserati's reliability track record for EV components is still being established
  • Service logistics for software-related repairs can require longer dealer holds than rival brands
  • Insurance costs are elevated relative to peers given high repair parts cost history

The engine

Folgore

Dual-Motor Electric AWD

Two permanent-magnet motors split torque across the axles for instant all-wheel shove, with 4-second 0-62 punch and Maserati's effort to give the EV a manufactured aural drama rather than silent anonymity.

Built on the same Stellantis Giorgio-derived architecture as the combustion Grecale at Maserati's Cassino plant in Italy; Folgore (Italian for 'lightning') is the marque's electric sub-brand, first seen on the GranTurismo Folgore.
