Single-Motor Electric (RWD)

A rear-mounted permanent-magnet motor that delivers instant, smooth torque with a quietly confident, low-slung gait thanks to a flat-floor skateboard layout. Power builds linearly and effortlessly rather than dramatically, suiting the Ioniq 5's calm cruiser character.

Built on Hyundai Motor Group's bespoke E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), the Ioniq 5 was the first vehicle launched on it, with a long 3,000 mm wheelbase enabling its lounge-like cabin.

E-GMP uses an 800-volt architecture that lets the car charge from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 18 minutes on a suitable ultra-fast DC charger.
Its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system turns the car into a 3.6 kW mobile generator that can run appliances or even power an isolated farm, enabled by Hyundai's bidirectional Integrated Charging Control Unit.
The 800V platform is clever enough to boost 400V chargers up to 800V by repurposing the motor and inverter as a converter.
