A modern Miller-cycle three-cylinder turbo with a torquey, efficiency-first character, its 48-volt starter-generator filling low-rev gaps and smoothing stop-start so the small engine feels gutsier than its size suggests.

A newer-generation downsized triple from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, built on the CMF-B platform shared across Clio, Captur and the Dacia/Renault Duster.

• It runs the Miller combustion cycle, where the intake valve timing is altered to cut pumping losses and raise efficiency, with the turbo compensating for the lost low-end air.
• The 48V mild-hybrid module stores energy in a small battery (around 0.8 kWh) recovered under braking to assist acceleration and enable smoother engine restarts.
• Dacia quotes roughly a 10% fuel saving over the same engine without the 48V electrification.
