A simple, durable naturally aspirated four with Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve timing, offering modest but dependable everyday power.

Part of the all-alloy 4B1 family built on the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) — a 2002 partnership between Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Chrysler — and produced at Mitsubishi's 'World Engine' plant in Shiga, Japan.

The same basic engine architecture was shared as the Chrysler 'World Engine' and Hyundai's G4KD, though each partner tuned its own version.
A turbocharged sibling of this very block, the 4B11T, powered the high-performance Lancer Evolution X.
The Outlander Sport (sold as the ASX or RVR abroad) has used this long-serving 2.0-liter for well over a decade.
