The engine

2.5L Plug-in Hybrid

2.5L Plug-in Hybrid I4 + Tri-Motor AWD

Combines the Atkinson four with a larger drive battery and three motors for genuine all-electric running plus strong combined punch, with a dedicated rear motor making AWD standard and acceleration noticeably brisker than the standard hybrid.

Built on Toyota's GA-K architecture, the RX 450h+ uses essentially the same plug-in setup as the Lexus NX 450h+ and Toyota RAV4 Prime, an evolution of Toyota's long hybrid lineage.

A second, dedicated electric motor drives the rear axle, so the all-wheel-drive system has no mechanical link between the front and rear axles.
It draws on an 18.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, far larger than a conventional hybrid's, to enable meaningful electric-only range.
Total system output is rated around 304 horsepower, comfortably above the non-plug-in hybrid version.
