Smartstream

1.6L Turbo Hybrid I4

A turbocharged four boosted by an electric motor for around 227 hp, giving a three-row SUV genuinely brisk, torque-rich acceleration with hybrid smoothness.

Kia's Smartstream 1.6 T-GDI full-hybrid system, shared with Hyundai's turbo-hybrid lineup and used in the Sorento Hybrid.

Unlike most hybrid SUVs, it drives through a conventional six-speed automatic instead of a CVT or eCVT.
It uses a single permanent-magnet motor integrated into the transmission rather than a separate motor-generator split.
The same turbo-hybrid hardware also serves duty in plug-in form with a larger battery.
