2.0L Variable-Compression Turbo I4

The world’s first production variable-compression engine, sliding between a high-compression efficiency mode and a low-compression boost mode as the driver asks for it — which is how a three-row this size posts four-cylinder economy without feeling starved when it is loaded.

More than 20 years in development at Nissan-Infiniti and first sold in the 2019 QX50, the VC-Turbo replaced the QX60’s VQ35DD V6 for 2025 — trading 27 hp for more torque, delivered lower, plus a meaningful economy gain.

A multi-link mechanism driven by an electric Harmonic Drive actuator varies compression continuously from 8:1 for power to 14:1 for efficiency.
Torque rises from the old V6’s 270 lb-ft to 286 lb-ft, and arrives far lower in the rev range.
EPA economy improved to 22 city / 27 highway with all-wheel drive, against 20 / 25 for the V6 it replaced.
Towing is unchanged at 6,000 pounds when properly equipped, despite losing two cylinders.
