The engine

EcoBoost (Nano)

Twin-Turbo V6

A muscular, refined twin-turbo six that hits hard and early, delivering big midrange torque with the smoothness expected of a luxury crossover yet enough bite to motivate an Explorer ST to 400 hp.

Part of Ford's 'Nano' EcoBoost family, it grew out of the 2.7-liter V6 with a larger bore and longer stroke, and debuted in the 2017 Lincoln Continental before spreading to the Aviator and Explorer.

Where the 2.7-liter Nano uses a compacted-graphite-iron block, the 3.0-liter switches to a cast-aluminum block to save weight.
It shares its core architecture with the smaller 2.7 EcoBoost, scaled up via bore and stroke rather than a clean-sheet design.
In the Lincoln Aviator it also anchors a plug-in hybrid Grand Touring variant, pairing the twin-turbo six with an electric motor.
