Chevy's 2.7-liter turbo-four makes big, truck-friendly torque from low rpm — an unusually large four designed to do a V6's job in pickups and SUVs with better efficiency.

GM engineered this high-output four specifically for trucks, with a trick three-stage sliding camshaft and an active thermal-management system for towing duty.

It makes more torque than many V6s, tuned for hauling rather than revs.
A sliding camshaft switches between three different cam profiles on the fly.
