S68

Twin-Turbo V8 Hybrid

A smooth yet ferocious mild-hybrid V8 whose 48-volt boost fills in low-end torque, giving instant response off the line and seamless surge between gears.

BMW's S68 is the M-division evolution of the long-running N63/S63 hot-vee 4.4-liter V8 lineage, now electrified; it powers the F95 X5 M Competition and the X7 M60i.

The 48-volt mild-hybrid motor is integrated into the transmission housing and can add up to roughly 12 hp and a large slug of torque on demand.
BMW has stated the S68 will be its exclusive V8 going forward across BMW and BMW M.
It descends from the N63, the first BMW V8 to place its turbos inside the cylinder banks.
