2.0L Turbo I4

BMW's B48 turbo-four is smooth and eager, its twin-scroll turbo and direct injection giving a flat, torquey midrange that punches well above the 2.0-liter displacement.

It's a pillar of BMW's modular engine family, built around a shared ~500cc-per-cylinder architecture so the four, the three-cylinder, and the straight-six all use common parts.

Each cylinder displaces almost exactly 500cc — a B48 four is essentially a B58 six with two cylinders removed.
It has landed on Wards 10 Best Engines list repeatedly since its debut.
