2.5L Hybrid I4 + Electric

Pairs an Atkinson-cycle four with electric motors via a planetary power-split eCVT, giving seamless, near-silent low-speed running and instant electric fill-in that masks the engine's modest character.

The A25A-FXS is the Atkinson-cycle hybrid sibling of the Dynamic Force four, descended from the hybrid lineage Toyota pioneered with the Prius and now used across the NX 350h, RX 350h, RAV4 Hybrid and Camry Hybrid.

The engine runs an unusually high 14:1 compression ratio enabled by delayed intake-valve closing on the Atkinson cycle.
It posts roughly 41% thermal efficiency, among the best of any production gasoline engine.
The hybrid system has no conventional starter or alternator and no stepped gears, using the motor-generators and a planetary gearset to act as the transmission.
