In the Grand Wagoneer this big 392-cubic-inch Hemi is deliberately tuned for refinement rather than the snarling aggression of SRT models, delivering around 471 hp with a deep, cultured rumble. It moves a heavy luxury SUV with a relaxed, bottomless surge of torque.

The Hemi name dates to Chrysler's 1951 hemispherical-head V8, and this 6.4-liter '392' descends from the modern Apache Hemi family. It powers the revived Grand Wagoneer, a nameplate first launched in 1963 as Jeep's original full-size luxury SUV.

The 'Hemi' nickname comes from the hemispherical combustion chambers, which allow larger valves and more complete combustion for strong high-rpm breathing.
In the Grand Wagoneer it is detuned for smoothness, the opposite philosophy to the same block's hard-edged SRT applications in the Durango and Grand Cherokee.
