The engine

S58

Twin-Turbo I6

A relentless twin-turbo straight-six that spins to a 7,200 rpm redline with creamy linearity and a deep, hard-edged growl, in Competition tune it makes around 503 hp.

BMW M's high-performance evolution of the B58 inline-six, engineered in Munich and first seen in the X3 M and X4 M before powering the M3, M4 and M2.

Unlike the B58 it is based on, the S58 uses a closed-deck block, a forged crankshaft and twin mono-scroll turbos for serious strength.
The same engine is the basis for the P58 race unit in the M4 GT3, and tuners have coaxed over 1,000 hp from the block.
BMW M later introduced pre-chamber 'M Ignite' ignition technology to further sharpen the S58's combustion.
