The engine

Theta II

2.0L Turbo I4

A twin-scroll turbo four that gives the entry G70 brisk, responsive mid-range pull and a willing, sporty feel in a compact luxury sedan. Smooth enough for daily luxury duty while still quick off the line.

Part of Hyundai Motor Group's Theta II T-GDI engine family, shared across Hyundai, Kia and Genesis and produced primarily in South Korea. In the G70 it was later superseded by a newer Smartstream 2.5-liter turbo from 2023 onward.
