The verdict

What's good

  • Rare four-door with a real V8
  • Genuine muscle-car exhaust note
  • Big, comfortable cabin and trunk
  • Values climbing as V8s disappear

What's not

  • Heavy fuel use in daily driving
  • Older design feels dated inside
  • Spins rear wheels in the wet
  • Bulky and wide in tight spots

The engine

HEMI (Eagle)

5.7L HEMI V8

A burbling, deep-chested pushrod V8 with the unmistakable lopey HEMI idle, delivering its punch low and broad rather than at the top of the tach.

This is the third-generation Chrysler HEMI, launched for 2003 and revived to carry the legendary hemispherical-combustion-chamber name first made famous by Chrysler's 1950s and Mopar muscle-car V8s. The 2009-and-later VVT version is internally codenamed 'Eagle.'
