BMW's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 makes effortless, deep-chested torque from low rpm with a muscular V8 burble, hauling everything from 8 Series GTs to M-badged super-SUVs.

It pioneered the 'hot-vee' layout — turbos nestled in the V between the cylinder banks — for sharper throttle response, a configuration BMW debuted on a road car and rivals later copied.

The turbochargers sit inside the V of the engine ('hot-vee'), shortening the path from cylinder to turbine for quicker spool.
In M8 and X5 M trim it makes over 600 hp.
