The verdict

What's good

  • Rear-wheel steering actively tightens the effective wheelbase at speed for precision
  • One of the last pure NA V12 Lamborghinis before electrification shifted the lineup
  • Anniversary halo status means demand and provenance value remain strong permanently
  • Carbon fiber monocoque keeps weight down despite the complex rear-steering hardware

What's not

  • ISR single-clutch gearbox delivers jerky low-speed shifts uncomfortable in traffic
  • Rearward visibility through the engine cover is essentially nonexistent without cameras
  • Service and parts require factory-authorized specialists with very limited global coverage
  • Cabin noise from the naturally aspirated V12 is extreme, fatiguing on long drives

The engine

L539

Naturally Aspirated V12

A ferocious, free-revving naturally aspirated V12 that climbs to 8,500 rpm with a hard-edged metallic wail, delivering its power in a building, addictive top-end rush.

Codenamed L539, this clean-sheet 6.5L V12 was developed entirely in-house at Sant'Agata Bolognese under CTO Maurizio Reggiani for the 2011 Aventador — only the second all-new V12 in Lamborghini history.
