The engine

Naturally Aspirated V12

A ferocious, free-revving naturally aspirated V12 that climbs to 8,500 rpm with a hard-edged metallic wail, delivering its power in a building, addictive top-end rush.

Codenamed L539, this clean-sheet 6.5L V12 was developed entirely in-house at Sant'Agata Bolognese under CTO Maurizio Reggiani for the 2011 Aventador — only the second all-new V12 in Lamborghini history.

It replaced the long-running Bizzarrini-designed V12 that powered every previous V12 Lamborghini, a lineage tracing back to a 3.5L unit in 1963.
In the track-focused SVJ it was reworked to 770 PS at 8,500 rpm, among the most potent naturally aspirated V12s of its time.
It stands as one of the last non-hybrid naturally aspirated V12s, ending its solo run in the Aventador Ultimae before Lamborghini moved to hybrid V12 power.
