The verdict

What's good

  • Street-tuned rather than trail-tuned, which is a rare thing among factory Ram 1500 specials
  • Bilstein monotube shocks give it genuine body control for a full-size truck
  • A button hands the four-wheel-drive system back to the rear axle when you want it out of the way
  • Entry point to a lineup that climbs all the way to Hellcat power

What's not

  • Quad Cab trades rear-seat room for the shorter footprint
  • Huge wheels on low-profile rubber firm up the ride
  • Costs meaningfully more than a Big Horn carrying the same engine
  • The real muscle-truck versions do not arrive until well into 2027

The engine

HEMI

5.7L V8

The 5.7-litre HEMI makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft and sounds like the muscle truck the Rumble Bee is dressed as — unhurried low down, then loud and willing once it is past about 4,000 rpm.

Chrysler revived the HEMI name for this engine family in 2003, and the Rumble Bee badge on the tailgate revives Dodge’s own 2004 Ram Rumble Bee — which was itself a nod to the 1968 Super Bee.
