A common-rail turbodiesel four delivering a broad, lazy slug of torque from low revs, ideal for hauling a big van or van-based MPV with relaxed effort. It is built for long-haul efficiency rather than excitement.

Part of Volkswagen Group's EA288 evo diesel family, derived from the Modular Diesel Toolkit (MDB) that underpins VW and Audi 2.0 TDIs. It joined the T7 Multivan range in 2022, continuing the long Transporter diesel lineage.

• The EA288 evo is engineered on VW Group's modular diesel kit, so it shares its core architecture with countless Audi and VW four-cylinder diesels.
• In the Multivan it makes about 150 PS with a flat 360 Nm torque plateau from roughly 1,600 to 2,750 rpm.
• It drives the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic rather than a torque-converter auto.
