Polestar began as Volvo's racing and performance arm before becoming a standalone EV brand under Volvo and Geely; the 2 is built on Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture, sharing its bones with the Volvo XC40.

• Early single-motor cars drove the front wheels, but Polestar later re-engineered the entry model to rear-wheel drive for sharper handling balance.
• Later single-motor versions saw their output and range climb substantially over the original, a rare case of a base EV getting meaningfully quicker mid-life.
