The verdict

What's good

  • Five-door body makes rear-seat access practical for regular use
  • Same trail capability as the 3-door in a more livable package
  • Mechanical simplicity keeps long-term ownership costs minimal
  • Cult following sustains resale values unusually well for the class

What's not

  • Loud engine and wind noise intrude significantly above highway speeds
  • Highway stability remains compromised by short wheelbase
  • Rear cargo area is small even with 5-door convenience
  • Safety rating is below modern compact SUV standards

The engine

K15B

1.5L I4

A naturally aspirated, rev-happy four that trades turbo punch for honesty and durability, peaking around 105 PS high in the range. In the featherweight Jimny it feels willing rather than fast, which suits the car's go-anywhere brief.

Part of Suzuki's K-engine family, the K15B debuted in 2018 in the Maruti Ertiga and Ciaz before powering the fourth-generation Jimny. It is an all-aluminium, open-deck DOHC design developed largely for Suzuki's India-built global models.
