A smooth, linear naturally aspirated four that prioritizes refinement and efficiency over drama, delivering its power high in the rev range in classic atmospheric fashion.

Introduced by Hyundai Motor Group in 2019 as part of the Smartstream family and shared widely across mid-size Hyundai and Kia models including the Sonata, K5, Santa Fe and Tucson.

The GDi version combines direct and multi-port injection, a trick more common on turbo engines, to optimize both power and cold-start cleanliness.
It uses an integrated exhaust manifold cast into the aluminum cylinder head to cut weight and aid warm-up.
The block is an open-deck aluminum design with cylinder liners for reduced mass.
