The engine

1.2L I3

A naturally aspirated three-cylinder built for light, frugal city work rather than outright pace, with a characteristic thrummy three-pot beat. It is unstressed and easy-going by design.

From Stellantis/PSA's EB engine family, made since 2012 at the French Trémery plant. The naturally aspirated 1.0 and 1.2 versions launched the PureTech name before the turbo variants arrived.

Engineers cut internal friction by about 30% versus a leading rival using tricks like offset cylinders, a diamond-like-carbon coating on pins and rings, and an electronically controlled oil pump.
To tame three-cylinder vibration it uses a heavily counterweighted crankshaft, with a balance shaft on some versions.
The naturally aspirated PureTech omits the oil-bath 'wet' timing belt that became controversial on the turbo EB engines.
