Quad-Motor Plug-In Hybrid

A range-extender plug-in hybrid where four independent electric motors, one per wheel, deliver instant torque-vectoring and party tricks no conventional drivetrain can match, while a petrol engine quietly tops up the battery.

BYD's flagship Yangwang luxury sub-brand, built on the proprietary e4 (Yi Si Fang) individual-wheel-drive platform and paired with the advanced DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body-control suspension.

With each wheel independently driven, the U8 can spin its left and right wheels in opposite directions to perform a near-360-degree 'tank turn' on the spot.
An emergency floating mode lets the SUV stay afloat for up to 30 minutes and paddle forward at about 3 km/h by spinning its wheels.
The e4 system can keep the car stable and steerable even after a high-speed tyre blowout by instantly redistributing torque among the remaining wheels.
