With one motor up front and two at the rear, the SQ8 e-tron delivers seamless, giggle-inducing surge and genuinely playful handling for its size, the rear pair shuffling torque so quickly the big SUV changes direction like something far lighter.

It sits on Audi's e-tron electric SUV platform and is the performance halo of the e-tron line, rebadged from Q8 e-tron to align the EV with Audi's combustion naming.

• The two rear motors deliver true torque vectoring in under five milliseconds, sending up to roughly 220 Nm more torque to the outside wheel through a corner without touching the brakes.
• Its triple-motor layout is unusual for using a single front motor paired with a dedicated motor for each rear wheel rather than one motor per axle.
• Performance comes at a cost to efficiency, with the heavy tri-motor setup limiting EPA range to roughly the low-250-mile mark.
