The engine

Nettuno

Twin-Turbo V6

A ferocious, high-revving twin-turbo V6 with a hard metallic edge to its voice, delivering its power with a knife-edge urgency that feels closer to a racing engine than a road one.

Designed and built entirely in-house by Maserati at its Modena plant from 2020, the Nettuno marked Maserati's return to its own bespoke engines after years of Ferrari-sourced units; it debuted in the MC20 supercar.

Its headline trick is Formula 1-derived pre-chamber 'turbulent jet ignition,' which fires combustion in a small pre-chamber to ignite the main chamber far faster and more completely.
Each cylinder has two spark plugs: one in the pre-chamber and a second in the main chamber that steps in at light load when the jet ignition needs help.
At low loads it can shut down an entire bank of three cylinders, even stopping their intake and exhaust cycles to cut pumping losses.
