The engine

Dual-Motor Electric

Dual-Motor Electric (AWD)

Two axle-mounted motors fire instant torque to all four wheels, giving the I-Pace a low-slung, planted launch and genuine sports-car urgency. The delivery is seamless and ferociously quiet.

The permanent-magnet synchronous motors were designed in-house by Jaguar, drawing on the company's electric-powertrain knowledge, and the car was engineered as Jaguar's first bespoke EV (built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria).

Each compact motor uses a concentric single-speed transmission so the driveshaft passes through the centre of the motor, shrinking the package and lowering the centre of gravity.
The I-Pace launched in 2018 as the first credible luxury rival to Tesla and went on to underpin Jaguar's all-electric Formula E race series support program.
Both motors are nearly identical units, one per axle, giving true through-the-road all-wheel drive without a mechanical link between them.
