A modern boosted four that spins up smoothly and punches well above its size, giving entry Genesis models genuine pace without a six-cylinder.

Built by Hyundai Motor Group on the Theta III architecture, the Smartstream G2.5 T-GDi (G4KR) debuted in late 2019 in the GV80 and was engineered to replace the recall-plagued 2.4L Theta II.

It uses dual injection, pairing direct and multi-port injectors to boost efficiency and reduce intake carbon buildup.
It is derived from the naturally aspirated 2.5L Smartstream that launched a year earlier, sharing much of its block architecture.
