Single-Turbo V6

A smooth, refined V6 that trades the old supercharger's instant whine for a fatter, more effortless mid-range torque swell, helped by a twin-scroll turbo that spins up fast.

Co-developed by Audi and Porsche and introduced in 2016 as the EA839 family, replacing the supercharged EA837 V6; it shares its core architecture and 'hot-vee' philosophy with the Volkswagen Group's 4.0 TFSI V8.

• The single turbocharger sits in the 'hot vee' between the cylinder banks rather than outside them, shortening the exhaust path so boost builds more quickly.
• It directly replaced Audi's distinctive Eaton-supercharged 3.0 TFSI, ending the era of the supercharger's characteristic whine in S4/S5 models.
• Mild-hybrid 48-volt versions of the engine power larger cars like the A7, A8 and Q8 with a slightly detuned output.
