2.0L Twin-Charged I4 Mild-Hybrid

The same turbo-and-supercharged four gains a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist, blending its strong twincharged torque with electric boost off the line for smoother, more responsive launches and stop-start refinement. It delivers around 295 hp while trimming fuel use.

Badged B6, this is Volvo's 48-volt mild-hybrid evolution of its Drive-E twincharged four, announced in 2019 and reaching the US for 2022. It powers the XC60 and XC90, built on the modular Volvo Engine Architecture.

The small integrated motor recovers braking energy into a 48-volt battery, then uses it to restart the engine and electrically assist acceleration.
Volvo's alphanumeric naming separates powertrains by output: B5, B6 and so on indicate relative power level rather than displacement, which stays at 2.0 liters across the range.
